- Week 7
- What surprised me most by the Wright brothers (Wilbur and Orville) was how they were so determined to fly. They had a simple life running a bike store and it surprised me that ordinary guys would sacrifice time and their savings in something that was so risky.
- · What I admired most about these two entrepreneurs was how the were pursuing something they loved. From the reading, I got a sense that they were ordinary brothers having fun and trying to do something no one else had done. Additionally, I admire their work ethic and how serious they took their passion.
- · What I least admired about the brothers was how secretive they seemed about their technology and plane. My perception was that they did not want other people making their own planes and taking away their fame and money.
- · The Wright brothers failed a few times with a couple of their gliders. Once they analyzed what went wrong, they were able to build upon it and eventually were able to attach a motor, making it the first powered flight.
- · What confused me about the story was the role of their sister, Katherine. I have never heard of her before this reading so learning that she was crucial in their success was interesting.
- · If I were able to ask the brothers two questions they would be “At what point did you really believe you would be flying?” and “Were you scared or excited to try the plane for the first time”. I would ask these just because I’m curious as to how quickly they turned their lives towards their passion.
- · I think the entrepreneur’s opinion of hard work is to never give up and be completely dedicated to what you want. I feel like they would say to do what you love so the work isn’t hard.
